Hands-on with the Ladybird Colors Rainbow

Next to the 70th Anniversary of the Fifty Fathoms there has been a lot of emphasis put by Blancpain on the new Ladybird Colors collection. Today we are getting up close and personal with the latest new release, the Ladybird Colors „Rainbow“ reference 3661A-1954-95A.

.

The significance of mechanical ladies watches

Blancpain’s tradition of mechanical ladies watches is as strong as their dive watch heritage, reaching back into the 1950s with the smallest automatic caliber in the industry powering a broad variety of exceptional women’s watches under the name Ladybird. At the time those women’s watches were just as important to Blancpain as were the dive watches. And let’s not leave out the beautiful rectangular cocktail watch that was owned by Marilyn Monroe.

.

This tradition continued alongside the resurrection of Blancpain in the 1980s and 1990s, actually expanded to smaller versions of the 2100/Leman and Trilogy lines for ladies. In the early 2000s a designated model line called „Women“ was created, followed by the re-introduction of the famous Ladybird name.

.

Since 2022 Blancpain has concentrated the women’s timepieces under the new Ladybird model family. With the Ladybird Colors this model family grows substantially, and the Blancpain tradition of offering only mechanical watches also for ladies is continuing with a remarkable lineup.

The extrovert Ladybird Colors Rainbow

The rainbow theme is usually synonymous with colorful gem setting on a timepiece. Well, here it is not: the vibrant colors are found with the hand painted Roman hour numerals while the gem setting is solely focused on white diamonds.

.

Actually 2,3ct of diamonds adorn the timepiece. 59 diamonds with almost 2ct are dedicated to the 34.9mm case, 70 diamonds are set on the colorful dial, the crown features a diamond, too. And the tang buckle rounds up the gem setting with another 43 diamonds.

.

Those stones, set in two interlocking circles, add significant radiance to the dial, which in itself is made from mother-of-pearl, providing a beautiful play of light and depths. Together with the skeleton leaf hands there’s a plentiful of exciting details working in perfect balance and harmony.

.

The most eye-catching element are the colorful numerals, though. Hand printed in multiple steps (at minimum 5) with meticulous craftmanship they are a pure delight when explored in detail under different light conditions and under a loupe.

.

Picking up the theme of the bright color palette, the Ladybird Colors Rainbow comes with a set of 5 straps. Those are easily exchangeable with quick-release spring bars not only for the lugs but also the tang buckle.

.

Turning to the backside of the watch we see caliber 1163 with 4 days of power reserve through a sapphire crystal. The 22ct gold skeleton rotor picks up the circle theme from the dial, which is a very round up to this extrovert and refined Ladybird.

.

You find the Ladybird Colors here on the Blancpain website. An essay on two smaller Ladybird Ultraplate with caliber 615 can be found here in the blog.

I hope you enjoyed this hands-on with this eye-catching timepiece.

Cheers

Henrik
