The 2024 novelties so far

It’s my pleasure to open the annual novelties overview for 2024. Just like in the past years it is a realistic expectation that we will learn about the Blancpain novelties at different points throughout the year. This overview will be updated whenever new models are released, and as usual I will try to do my best to provide hands-on photos of many new timepieces as soon as possible.

The year started with the surprise of a sixth the Blancpain x Swatch Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms  named Ocean of Storms, now (again surprisingly and in a sort of silent launch) No 7 is revealed, named Blue Lagoon, apparently already on sale in selected Swatch Boutiques since December 13.

The nudibranch selected for this new version is called Tambja Mullineri:

Other than the previous iterations the Blue Lagoon comes on a two-piece strap and not a Nato.

You find the seventh Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms here on the Swatch website.

A hands-on with the three new timepieces will be published very soon in the blog. In the meantime you find the new Bathyscaphe ceramic models here on the Blancpain website and the press release as well the technical sheets here:

On October 22 Blancpain introduced a new compelling version of the Air Command in both the 42.5mm (AC02) and 36.2mm (AC03) sizes, featuring matte green dials and a black ceramic bezel housed in a grade 23 titanium case.

Both timepieces have display case backs offering a view on similarly decorated movements: caliber F388 in the AC02 and caliber F188 in the AC03.

The AC02-12B53-63 is limited to 200 pieces, the AC03-12B53-63 is limited to only 100 pieces. here you find the official press release and the technical sheets:

You find the two new models here on the Blancpain website and my hands-on coverage of both here in the blog.

And if those two watches are not already a pleasant surprise… there’s more: the blue dial Air Command AC02 and AC03 models are now available with a grade 23 titanium bracelet!

Here are the technical sheets for both:

On August 27 Blancpain introduced 4 new red gold green dial Villeret models: the Villeret Extraplate, the Quantieme Phases de Lune for women, the Quantieme Complet and the spectacular Tourbillon Carrousel.

It’s my pleasure to share some real life close ups with you in this short introduction:

Here you find the technical data sheets for all new models and the press release:

On August 15 Blancpain added a new Ladybird colors monochrome version with coral blue numerals to the collection. In addition the multi colored Ladybird Colors Rainbow now receives the iconic moon phase indication..

Here you find the technical data sheets and the press release for both new models:

On July 29 Blancpain added 18ct gold bracelets as an option to the Bathyscaphe Quantieme Complet ref 5054 and Bathyscaphe Chronographe flyback ref 5200.

The beautifully crafted bracket features adjustment screws on the underside of the bracelet, just as we know it from the titanium bracelets.

Here’s the official press announcement on the 18ct red gold bracelets, so far the bracelet is not available for the Bathyscaphe ref 5000, probably since those precious metal versions are made from Sedna Gold. You find the two new full gold timepieces here on the Blancpain website.

On June 27 Blancpain introduced not only three new ceramic versions of the Bathyscaphe Quantieme Complet ref 5054 but also a high end ceramic bracelet which adds another two versions to the existing black ceramic Bathyscaphe references 5000 and 5200.

A hands-on with the new Bathyscaphe 5054 versions on the ceramic bracelet is available here in the blog, with many close-up details of the new dials and of course the bracelet. Here in this novelty overview let’s focus on the press release and the technical sheets of all new variants:

You find the online experience on the new models here on the Blancpain website.

On March 21 Blancpain introduced the new 42mm Fifty< Fathoms 5010 collection. Since this launch is very significant and also contains a lot of official data spread between 14 different references, the introduction is covered in a separate blog post here.

On February 29, a day that only appears every 4 years and which is the key day for a perpetual calendar timepiece, Blancpain introduces a new version of the Villeret Quantieme Perpetuel in a red gold case with a stunning forest green dial.

The 40mm watch of course features the patented under-lug-correctors which make the manipulation of the calendar very comfortable and avoid the not so pretty corrector often seen spoiling the case flanks of complicated calendar timepieces.

Attached please find the technical data sheet and the press release for this new addition to the Villeret family. You find the Villeret Quantieme Perpetuel 6656-3653-55B here on the Blancpain website.

On January 5 some cryptic advertisements appeared in leading print newspapers, with a font that reminded of the Scuba FF models. Now the Blancpain x Swatch Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Ocean of Storms is revealed and will go on sale in selected Swatch Boutiques on January 11, 2024.

The theme of linking each Scuba Fifty Fathoms to an ocean was actually a finite deal, since all 5 oceans on earth have been covered in the original launch 4 months ago. Now, where does the new edition find its roots?

Swatch and Blancpain took a little freedom by expanding the theme beyond earth: Ocean of Storms is the English name for the biggest mare (sea) on the moon.

This lunar ocean finds itself imprinted on the Sistem 51 movement plate, the transparent rotor carries a nudibranch from earth, albeit with a lunar name: the Okenia Luna.

The Scuba FF Ocean of Storms is coming in a black bioceramic case with a black dial, which happens to have a sunburst finish (a notable difference to the other 5 models). Together with the high contrasting white hands and numerals this edition is the least colorful but possibly most versatile and closest to the real Fifty Fathoms among the now 6 Scuba FF models. I think it’s safe to assume this Scuba FF will be a bestseller.

The Blancpain x Swatch Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Ocean of Storms can be explored further here on the Swatch website. It is non limited but available only in selected Swatch Boutiques.

For the upcoming Chinese New Year Blancpain introduces a limited to 50 pieces red gold Villeret Calendrier Chinois Traditionel with a green Grand Feu enamel dial, this year highlighting the sign of the dragon.

.

This timepiece starts the second 12 year cycle for Blancpain offering a new edition for the respective Zodiac sign, with the first Traditional Chinese Calendar created also proudly carrying a dragon engraving on the rotor, albeit done in a different style and the watch case being executed in platinum. This new cycle shows a different decoration style on the rotor and starts with the first green Grand Feu enamel dial made by Blancpain:

Here you find the press release and the technical sheet, you find the timepiece here on the Blancpain website.

Another long time tradition is the annual Saint Valentine edition, for 2024 it is based on the new Ladybird Colors and limited to 99 pieces edition:

All photos, press releases and technical sheets are copyright Blancpain.
